Lakers Bounce Back Against Wolves
The Hoops Insider 034

Welcome back hoops fans!
This is the 34rd edition of The Hoops Insider, where we bring you the latest updates from the world of hoops. Today we cover the intense playoff series between the Lakers and Timberwolves. Let’s hop right into it!
Lakers Even Series 1-1 with Physical 94-85 Victory
In a complete turnaround from their Game 1 blowout loss, the Los Angeles Lakers showed their championship mettle by grinding out a crucial 94-85 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night. The victory squares their first-round series at one game apiece as the action shifts to Minneapolis for Game 3.
Luka Doncic demonstrated why the Lakers acquired him, delivering a near triple-double performance with 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists. The star guard established himself early, exploiting matchups against Rudy Gobert as Los Angeles built a commanding 22-point first-quarter lead.
"We looked at what we didn't do so well, which is a lot of things in Game 1," said LeBron James, who contributed 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists. "We took it to heart, held each other accountable and had a much better result."

Physical Battle Sets Tone for Series
Tuesday's contest featured 46 personal fouls and multiple video reviews, establishing what promises to be a physical series moving forward. Rui Hachimura epitomized the Lakers' grit, returning to action after taking a blow to the face that left him with a bloody nose. He briefly wore a protective mask before discarding it due to discomfort.
Julius Randle led Minnesota with 27 points, but the Timberwolves couldn't recapture their offensive fluidity from the series opener.
After surrendering 21 three-pointers in Game 1's lopsided defeat, the Lakers' defensive adjustments proved effective in containing Minnesota's offensive rhythm. Anthony Edwards, who scored 25 points, acknowledged the challenges posed by LA's defensive scheme.
"The way that they're guarding us, when I catch the ball, they kind of go zone, and when I try to attack a gap, it's like three people," Edwards explained. "I've just got to make my decisions a little quicker, and we'll be all right."
Coach Redick's Fiery Approach
First-year Lakers coach JJ Redick kept his team focused, even delivering a profanity-laden timeout speech in the fourth quarter as Minnesota threatened to close the gap.
"I think tonight was just more about getting that urgency button switched back on," Redick said of his team's performance.
The series now shifts to the Target Center in Minneapolis for Game 3 on Friday night. The Lakers must now prove they can maintain their defensive intensity on the road.
With both teams having landed significant punches in the opening games, this first-round matchup is shaping up to be one of the most competitive and intense of the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
